INLAYS & ONLAYS IN LOUISVILLE

What are Dental Inlays & Onlays?

Inlays and onlays function like partial crowns because they use the existing tooth as a base and fit around and over it. Inlays and onlays strengthen the tooth, restore its shape and even prevent further damage. Like with crowns, a mold is taken for an inlay or onlay and then sent away to a lab. These, too, can be created from porcelain, gold, or a composite resin. Your inlayed or onlayed tooth will look natural, and no one will be able to tell the difference.

What exactly are inlays and onlays? Inlays and onlays are a general dentistry appliance that use an existing tooth as a base and fit the inlay or onlay onto the tooth. There are many helpful benefits when inlays and onlys are applied to your teeth. When inlays and onlays are applied, they strengthen the existing tooth, restore the shape of the tooth, and prevent further damage. When there is no damage on the cusps of the tooth then an inlay is applied. If the damage is more extensive they tooth will require an onlay.

Our Process Of Applying Inlays and Onlays at
Advanced Dental Center in Louisville

At Advanced Dental we want to provide the best care for all of our patients. If you are interested in getting inlays or onlays done to your teeth, we ask you to come into the office for a consultation with one of our staff members. From there we will determine what will best help your problem and get started with the process. During the first procedure we will remove the decayed area of the tooth. After that is completed we will create a mold of the tooth. The mold of the tooth is taken to the dental lab at Advanced Dental Center. The lab staff will create a restoration specifically designed from your existing tooth mold. The dental appliance is made from porcelain, gold, or a composite resin. The making of this appliance takes about two to three weeks to make. While the permanent appliance is being made, Advanced Dental will provide a temporary inlay or onlay on the tooth for the time being. During your next visit at Advanced Dental Center the inlay or onlay will be placed into your mouth and set with cement to maintain in place. Your tooth will look natural and match your other teeth, you won’t be able to tell the difference.
